I've just read a short story called ``When Rich came to Sunday dinner`` which is about two people who are about to get married. Just like in a movie we saw last week `` Gran Torino`` there was a mix of different cultures. In the movie there was an American man living with the Hmong family next door.
In the short story girl`s family was from China, and Rich (her
fiancé) didn't make a good impression on hers parents . I guess in all cultures it's rude to make comments about the food that we got served, especially when someone has put a lot of effort in it. Well at least I would find it rude if somebody would say it to me. Walt ( in the Gran Torino movie made also a quite a common mistake with the Hmong people ) For us, people in Europe it's totally natural to get eye contact when you meet somebody for the first time which is not normal for Hmong people, it's actually forbidden to do that ( I guess it had something to do with their souls)
Hmong people are an
Asian ethnic group from the mountainous regions of China, Vietnam, Laos, and
Thailand. Hmong are also one of the sub-groups of the Miao ethnicity in
southern China. Hmong groups began a gradual southward migration in the 18th
century due to political unrest and to find more arable land.
